IDA ICE PUD Hands-on session «IFC»
Abstract

IDA ICE 5.1 included a number of new IFC- and productivity features and in this session, we will look closer at these.

We’ll begin by presenting the BIM import, its key features and intended applications.

During the hands-on session, you’ll:

  • Learn how to export high quality IFC-files from Revit and optionally ArchiCAD, with or without licenses. Useful templates will be provided to participants.
  • Learn how to use many of the new features in IDA ICE 5.1 intended to simplify import IFC-files of poor quality, for example transparent curtain wall elements and missing IfcSpaces. The examples will be based upon demonstration models and actual projects.
  • Learn how to export simulation results from IDA ICE to IFC.

The session will conclude with an open discussion on new features, your experiences, and your ideas for future enhancements, including alternatives to IFC like dotbim, Speckle, hbjson and even 3D CAD.

We look forward to your participation and valuable feedback as we shape the future of IDA ICE and BIM-integration together.

Hands-on session: Automatic Multi-objective Optimization

Duration: 90 min, followed by 30 min Q&A session.

In this hands-on session with the developers, we will introduce you to the latest IDA ICE 5.1.1 expert feature for automatic optimization called AutoMOO.

AutoMOO is an in-house built feature that replaces MOBO and GenOpt in IDA ICE 5.1.1 to provide users with a simple and powerful optimization tool. Optimization is an essential design decision tool helping engineers, consultants, and architects reach better designs faster!

Together we will go through a design decision exercise demonstrating optimization of a stratified tank with Life Cost Cycle Analysis. At the end of the exercise, you will have experience in the following IDA ICE 5.1.1 features:

  • Multi-Objective Optimization
  • Graphical Scripting
  • Lisp Scripting
  • Parametric Runs

A Q&A with the developers will follow the hands-on session above, where you will have a chance to discuss, give feedback, propose ideas and further improvements, and finally get a glimpse of yet to be released features.

IDA ICE PUD Hands-on session «Stratified Zone Model»
Abstract

EQUA has released a new Stratified Zone Model in IDA ICE 5.0 and 5.1 that allows users to predict vertical distributions of air temperature, vapor and CO2 concentrations, and air flows in a zone. In this session we will introduce and explore this new zone model.

We will begin by presenting the new stratified zone model, its main features, and intended applications. We will also look at:

  • Specific features, such as the different types of supply terminals;
  • The new dedicated diagrams showing results in each layer, as well as the new 3D results which include the air temperature and velocity, the CO2 distribution, the mean radiant and operative temperatures, the illuminance, and several comfort indices;
  • The new capabilities of the zone sensor, which can now also provide position-dependent measurements.

During the hands-on session, you will:

  • Follow a step-by-step guide to set up and perform one or more simulations on a test case, using the new IDA ICE stratified zone model;
  • Visualize the results and document important conclusions, especially insights gained from comparisons with well-mixed zone simulation results.
  • Optionally, if you have run a CFD simulation in the same zones, you can analyze and discuss the similarities and differences.

The session will conclude with an open discussion on the new features, your experiences, and your ideas for future enhancements, including innovative ways to present results.

We look forward to your participation and valuable feedback as we shape the future of IDA ICE together.

IDA ICE PUD Hands-on session «PV»
Abstract

We will first show and explain our newest and not yet released models:

  • An alpha version of a new quick, simple and efficient method for consideration of PV building skins: You can give an overall system efficiency and click on all façades and roofs that you want to equip with PV.
  • Our detailed PV model that we revised for version 5.1.1., including the one-diode cell and panel model as well as the mpp tracking and inverter model, considering partial shading for both modules and strings. The number of parameters is reduced to the relevant ones on common product data sheets.

In the actual hands-on session, you will do the following:

  • Complete your model from either part 1 or 2 with batterie(s), thermal storage tanks and controls for room setpoints, heating units and/or heatpumps in order to optimize your system regarding load on the power grid.
  • Optimise your PV field by comparing different panel arrangements and stringing versions.

At the end we are looking forward to discussing with you our new features and your ideas for further improvements, including good ideas for result presentations.

IDA ICE PUD Hands-on session «Localization Switzerland»
Abstract

We take a look at the current and released version 5.1 and its localization for Switzerland. There are many new things that you may not yet be aware of. In the first part, we will go through the following:

  • Heating and cooling load calculation: SIA 4010 (technical instructions of SIA 380/2) describes new design periods for the heating and cooling load calculation based on the annual climate data, how it will be included in the next version of SIA 2028. We also show how the heating and cooling load calculation can be done in version 5.1 with the future climate scenarios.
  • Energy calculation: You can now compare your “project model” (building as planned) with both a limit and a target value model, as requested in SIA 380/2 (reference buildings). We present the workflow of a complete energy demand calculation and evaluation according to SIA 380/2. And maybe you would then want to compare the results with those according to SIA 380/1 … ?

In the practical part, your task will be:

  • to learn how to use SIA simulations in Parametric Runs to optimize your models. Find out how to use this method for optimizing your design or official evidence.
  • to get to know the new energy calculation method to fulfill SIA energy requirements by fully automatically creating the SIA 380/2 reference models and comparing your building with its limit and target value.

As a conclusion, we are looking forward to discussing with you our new features and your ideas for further improvements, including good ideas for result presentations.
