Workflow-Training: Avoiding Overheating in Summer (SIA 380/2)

Workflow Training: Avoiding Overheating in Summer (SIA 380/2)
Part of the workflow series “Swiss Localization”

Prerequisite: Participants are expected to be familiar with the topics covered in the basic course and should refresh this knowledge individually before attending the training.

This training is part of the new workflow training series for the Swiss localization. In these courses, we demonstrate practical, step-by-step approaches to implementing various simulation applications for everyday simulation work:

  • Winter Thermal Protection (SIA 380/1) – From model to compliance verification step by step (WF-CH1)
  • Summer Thermal Protection (SIA 180 C.1) – Automatic optimization and certification (WF-CH2)
  • Avoiding Overheating in Summer (SIA 380/2) – Passive measures and cooling demand analysis (WF-CH3)
  • Heating and Cooling Load Simulation (SIA 380/2) – Methodology for system sizing (WF-CH4)
  • Energy Demand (SIA 380/2) – Electricity demand for cooling compliance verification (WF-CH5)

For various regulatory compliance checks in Switzerland, verification of high summer indoor temperatures according to SIA 380/2 (formerly cooling demand verification according to SIA 382/1) is required. This verification can be carried out using the Swiss localization in IDA ICE.

In this practice-oriented workflow training, we provide an overview of the requirements and their practical application. We demonstrate how to model possible passive measures in IDA ICE, evaluate the simulation results, and generate the corresponding compliance report.

This workflow training includes the following aspects:

  • Introduction and fundamentals of the standard
  • Natural ventilation and night cooling. Introduction to user-defined control (Control)
  • Example of a system simulation using free cooling
  • Report generation
  • Tips and tricks
