Introduction to Controls
Prerequisites
Participants are expected to be familiar with the content covered in the basic course and to review this material as individual preparation for the training.
Lesson CTRL0
Control systems are essential for accurate and dynamic building simulation. This introductory course provides a hands-on overview of where and how control logic is applied in IDA ICE – from zone-level control to HVAC systems and shading strategies.
Participants will explore key components such as P and PI controllers, thermostats, logic operators, timers, and basic mathematical blocks. The session includes building a custom control loop to deepen understanding of signal connections, feedback structures, and result logging.
This course lays the groundwork for more advanced control strategies taught in the follow-up CTRL1–3 courses, where complex, real-world examples are explored in depth.
