Prerequisites
Participants should have completed at least one intermediate course. Ideally, the introductory session CTRL0 was attended beforehand.
Course participants are expected to have attended at least one continuation course.
Course: Control (CTRL1-3)
This advanced-level course is designed for experienced IDA ICE users who want to deepen their understanding of building control systems. Through a selection of hands-on exercises, you’ll explore a wide range of control strategies – from basic setups to complex interdependent logic.
You’ll learn how to analyse control layers and interactions, select appropriate controllers, perform debugging, and test system performance. Exercises can be selected individually and adapted to your own learning pace.
Course content (selected topics):
• Shading control with deadband logic
• Adaptive artificial lighting control
• Zone control based on window status
• Dew point control using Advanced-Level signals
• Step control (e.g. staged ventilation)
• Comfort field control (temperature band based on outdoor conditions)
• Central CO₂-based airflow control
• Dual heating system control in one zone
• Ventilation via windows based on temperature/CO₂
• Mixed-air control with competing objectives (e.g. CO₂ vs. energy saving)
• Preconditioning using “time before use” signals
The course includes a 3-month trial licence of the Expert full version!!
